The iPad – The Best Home Electronic Device To Date

Although the tablet, touch screen computer market has been around for a while, it wasn’t until Apple released the iPhone that it really took off. You see, while Apple is creative and innovative and makes new products from the ground up, the previous tablet computers were pretty lazy attempts. Basically they saw the touch screen as just another way of interacting with existing software, rather than something that deserved to have software specially developed for it. In this way the tablet computer market left users frustrated at using flimsy styluses to interact with precise screen locations designed for mouse users.

Enter Apple, who realized that to get the most out of the Multi-Touch experience the software and device must compliment each other perfectly to give the best overall user experience. In this way, the iPhone, and now the iPad give the user a unique interaction with their device, which makes them a pleasure to use. This means that previously mundane tasks such as replying and organizing email, or even cataloging photos become a pleasurable activity. The software just “works” the way you would expect anything that you use directly with the motion of your fingers to.

With this innovation of the way people use the device, has also seen massive progress in the developed of standard, and unique iPad accessories to go along with the device. For example, while the multi-touch screen is great for just surfing the web or replying to short emails, it doesn’t really stand up to a full sized computer for writing essays or sending long blog posts. You don’t have to move far from your iPad to have this functionality however, all you need to do is hook it up to your keyboard dock for iPad and you can type away on a normal keyboard. What’s more, hooking it up to the dock makes it really easy to work with as it’s simultaneous syncs up to your main computer and charges your device. You can also, with or without a dock hook your iPad up to any number of others devices to make your iPad even more useful. For example there is a camera connection kit, which enables you to get the most out of your photos as you can instantly view them on the screen. As this ultimate gadget gains popularity, there are sure to be more innovative accessories coming in to the market.

One thing is for sure— the iPad is set to continue to shake up the home electronics world. It combines so many devices in to one gorgeous package, which it is sure to be on many people’s wish lists.

LED Flat Screen LCD TV: Flat as Flat Can Be

January 20th, 2010 by admin No comments »

Flat screen televisions have certainly come a long way in ushering the high tech era in home entertainment. It has become the top choice for TV buyers looking to replace their bulky television boxes and has become the technology of choice for many display applications.

The LCD TV in particular has had a stellar rise in the ranks of the flat screen display technology. The demand for LCD screen televisions is on a rise that it has outsold its close cousins, the cathode ray tube (CRT) and the plasma TV. They are developing better and better versions of these televisions literally on a monthly basis.

Now with LED flat screen LCD televisions starting to gain ground in the market, we are seeing yet another set of significant improvements over its predecessors.

What is the LED LCD TV and how does it work?

An LED LCD TV is a LCD flat screen television that uses light emitting diode technology (LED technology) as its light source. The traditional LCD TV uses cold cathode fluorescent light (CCFL) as lighting. They are placed right behind the LCD panel or at the edges of the LCD screen to provide the necessary back lighting it needs to produce pictures.

LED LCD TVs employ the same principle except that instead of CCFL lights, LEDs are used behind or at the edges (edge-lighting) the LCD screen panels.

The great thing about LED-lit LCD televisions are that because of the tiny sizes of LEDs, they have allowed TV manufacturers to come up with sleeker, thinner and lighter flat screen TV designs that boggles the minds of old school couch potatoes. LED TVs using edge-lighting in particular has allowed one manufacturer to break the 10 mm barrier with its 6.5 mm thin LED-lit flat screen LCD TV! An amazing feat of engineering if you ask me!

What is edge-lighting anyway?

There are some LCD flat screen TV design that allows for the use of the light source to be placed along the edges of the LCD panel. The lights are shone through an efficient light diffusion material that is placed behind the LCD to give it the back-lighting effect. This technique is used for both CCFL and LED lighting types but with the LEDs, flat screens have started to truly become flat because LEDs are so much smaller than CCFL tubes and installing them along the edges affords designers a significant reduction in the thickness of LCD-based flat screen displays!

More Advantages of LED flat screen LCD TVs

One significant advantage of the LED-lit LCD TV designs is based on the fact that LEDs require less power to work. This trait has been successfully transferred to its flat screen TV incarnation as they have been reported to require up to 40% less energy! That’s a lot of savings in those electric bills especially if you’re a certified television buff.

Some improvements have also been reported in picture quality but this may not only be because of the LED backlighting but a combination of all the other advancements in LCD technology.
